With gratitude to God for the many blessings over the past 128 years, I write to you today with both hope and excitement for the future of St. Catherine Catholic Church. Over the years, our parish has grown not only in numbers but, more importantly, in faith, devotion, and commitment to living out the Gospel. We are deeply grateful for your role and presence in this thriving community.
After much prayer and discussion, we have come to recognize a pressing need: our current church facilities no longer adequately serve the spiritual and pastoral needs of our growing parish family. Due to the continued growth of our parish and the limitations of our current space, we have at times experienced challenges with our surrounding neighbors, including instances where interactions have not always been welcoming or supportive.
To address this, the parish has acquired 32 acres of land by Howard Avenue extension in Tarboro. We now look toward relocating and building a new church—a sacred space that will better accommodate our worship, ministries, and future generations. We are building more than a structure; we are shaping a legacy of faith, hope, and love. It will be a home where we can deepen our relationship with God, celebrate the sacraments, grow in service to the needy in our community and nurture a vibrant parish life. The new site will feature a church with a sitting capacity for 300 people, a parish hall, an ample space for parking, a priest rectory, and an open space for parish festivals and events.
I humbly ask for your prayers as we embark on this significant step. Your spiritual support is essential, as we entrust this project to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In addition, we invite you to be part of this vision through your financial donation. The parish had put a goal of $1 million to raise until the summer of 2027. Whether the parish can make it, that’s all up to us. I am appealing to you by asking for your generous support in helping bring this vision to life.
As you consider giving, think about what St. Catherine Church has meant in your life—the baptisms, the weddings, the quiet prayers, the Eucharistic masses celebrated, the funerals, the community—and imagine someone else across our area experiencing the same grace because you chose to say yes now for the next generations to come.
